Marquita discovered her passion for wine while waiting tables to support her dance career. Wine became her main focus upon retiring from dance in 2002. Upon the recommendation of her mentor at Jean Georges, she received her Vinification/Viticulture certificate and pin in 2004 from the American Sommelier Association. She has worked at many restaurants including Indochine, Al di La, Jean Georges, Colicchio & Sons, Lure Fish Bar, Bowery Meat Company, and Waverly Inn. She works at Red Hook Winery, as a Sales Rep for Volcanic Selections, is developing her consulting business, and as an On Call Somm at Waverly Inn. Last year, with the help of her mentor Lisa Granik MW, she began her studies to start The Master of Wine certification. She is currently studying for the Certified Specialist of Wine exam in order to start the Diploma WSET, and the first step to becoming a CWE.
