D.C. Flynt, MW

D.C. Flynt M.W. is one of 22 Americans, who hold the degree, Master of Wine. The Master of Wine designation originated by the London City livery company, the Worshipful Company of Vintners, to manage their vast vineyard holdings, and imported wine. Beginning at the onset of the 20th century, the board examination has been administered by the Institute of Masters of Wine, London England. The examination is given only after several years of course and dissertation work is completed. The weeklong MW examination covers every aspect from a world perspective of wine grape production, winemaking, post-fermentation maturation, and the biochemistry of wine, quality control, and quality assurance, plus the world business and marketing of wine. A practical component of the examination takes place each day, 12 wines are presented blind, and the candidates must identify, Varietal/Varieties, Country, Region, Appellation, Vineyard, Vintage, Method of Production, and Potential Ageing and Maturation. Since its inception, only 242 men and women worldwide have passed the industry's most rigorous examination to become Masters of Wine. D.C. Flynt M.W. is the only American to ever receive the Robert Oatley Award for the highest level of achievement on the theoretical essay component of the Master of Wine examination. Currently, D.C. Flynt M.W. teaches potential M.W. candidates for the Institute’s Master of Wine. He is the co-educational chairman for the Practical (tasting) component of the examination. and teaches several components of  Theory.

Owner, Importer of D.C. Flynt MW Selections, Great Domaines of Burgundy. D.C. Flynt primarily imports wines of Burgundy with a particularly emphasis the Cote d’Or. plus a small amount of Champagne, and New Zealand Wine. The properties he represents are always among the top Domaines from Fixin to Santenay, and are recognized as such by wine writers and Burgundy experts the likes of Remington Norman MW, Clive Coates MW, Anthony Hanson MW, and Robert Parker, Jr.  They include Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Daniel Moine Hudelot, Rene Lamy-Pillot, Billard-Gonnet, Denis Mugneret, Jean-Claude Martin, Marc-Michelet, Chateau Demessey, Baron de Curieres, Robert Ampeau, Pierre Gelin, Pierre Amiot, Girard Vollot, Jean-Jacques Girard, Phillipe Girard, Roland Rapet, Maison Blanche and Hospices de Beaune. DC Flynt MW Selections produces 5 of Costco’s Private Label wines  under the Kirkland Signature Brand, including Pauillac, Savigny les Beaune, Champagne, Tuscan, and NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

A frequent International Wine Judge, including among others the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, San Diego Wine Competition, and Chair of the New Orleans Wine and Food Competition best of Show.

Knighted in Beaune France in November of 1995 as "Chevalier at  "Conferie des Chevaliers de Tastevin, Clos de Vougeot" Burgundy, France.

The Wine Spectators "Award of Excellence"; DiRoNA Award Winner, Distinguished Restaurants of North America.  Fodor’s, Gourmet, Southern Living, and Mobil Guide recognize Café Margaux.
